About Subtext

What is Subtext

Subtext turns private group chats into subscribable digests. A sponsor invites our AI agent to their group conversation on iMessage, WhatsApp, or Telegram. Each week, the agent produces an anonymized summary of what was discussed and delivers it to subscribers by email.

Think of it as a newsletter powered by conversations that are already happening — not content anyone has to sit down and write. The sponsor reviews every digest before it goes out and sets the price. Subscribers get curated signal from groups they would otherwise never have access to.

How anonymization works

Privacy is not a feature we bolt on — it is the architecture. Messages are ingested and immediately encrypted at rest. The AI summarizer produces third-person prose: no names, no direct quotes, no attribution. After each digest is published, source messages are crypto-shredded — the encryption keys are destroyed, making the original messages permanently unrecoverable.

Every group participant must verify their identity through X (Twitter). This ensures real people stand behind the conversation while the digest itself remains fully anonymized. The result is content you can trust from people you cannot identify.

Trust architecture

The sponsor — the person who creates the Subtext — reviews and approves every digest before publication. Subscribers see aggregated social proof about the group (total follower count, verification status) but never individual identities. Display names are anonymized and randomized.

This creates a trust model where quality is enforced by the sponsor, identity is verified by X, and privacy is guaranteed by cryptography.

Why Subtext exists

The best conversations happen in private. Small groups of knowledgeable people trading insights in group chats produce some of the most valuable thinking on the internet — but that signal stays locked inside those chats.

Subtext exists to widen the aperture. We believe the people in those conversations should be able to share the value they create without sacrificing the privacy that makes the conversation honest in the first place. More signal to more people, with no one exposed.
